    Found It.

The Kirkland Tri-iT Triathlon is September 18th. It is a quarter-mile swim, a 12 mile bike, and a 3 mile run.

Here's the big question: can I not only stay on track for a 22 week program, can I accelerate it nearly a month to make the September event date?

Thoughts from any first time Tri-Athletes?

Fat Guy discovers training programs on the intertubes

Job number one as I start my journey as the Fat Triathlete is to find a training program. I believe strongly in plans. You have to have metrics to track progress so you know how you're doing.

Plans with checkpoints are essential to achieve goals. At the end of the day, at the end of the week, you can look objectively and know if you did or did not do what you were supposed to do. This takes the "feeling" out of it. You might feel like you're on track but a plan puts it in black and white -- you either ran 2 miles or you didn't.

I googled "couch potato triathlon training". The first result was for Beginner Triathlete.

I clicked on Michael's Total Sprint Program because one of the features was "Designed for those having some weight to lose." Thanks, dude. Nice marketing.

I'll be starting this program Monday May 17. It's a 22 week program which means the earliest I could do a Triathlon is October 9. Jumping in a lake for a quarter mile swim sounds terrible anytime, but more so in October.

    Any ideas?
